Continuing a trend seen over the past few years, the increase in Wheaton's comprehensive fee will go down slightly from last year. According to Rick Wallick, Vice President for Finance, the college is "just starting to look at the question [of the fee] for next year.
As promised as one of SGA President Austin Simko's '09 main deliverables, he announced the successful partnership between Triboro Music Theater in Attleboro and Wheaton College at the regular SGA Senate meeting on Nov. 18. The partnership will bring Wheaton's talent and resources to Triboro's space and direction in order to increase student opportunity to participate in a musical from one musical every four years to five musicals in a four-year period.
The greenhouse is offering a community-wide open house and repotting clinic on Friday, Dec. 5 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The open house, which is the second of four that the campus offers every year, will allow residents of nearby towns and of the Wheaton community to visit the greenhouse, which is not normally open to the public.
In order to address the problem of smoking on campus, Colleges Against Cancer (CAC) sponsored a panel to discuss Clean Air initiatives on campus. The panel was held in Hindle Auditorium on Nov. 20 and was planned to make students aware of the issue of cigarette smoke and waste on campus.
Various men of the Wheaton community spoke about their involvement with the feminist movement in a panel discussion on Thursday, Nov. 20. The event was sponsored by the newly formed Gender Studies Club. The six person panel spoke about their introductions to feminism as well as their experiences at Wheaton.
Although we are all undoubtedly anxious about the hike in tuition, it is a relief to find out that we were not the first to be struck with this worry. It is important to realize that, even though it is not always ideal, neigh it is never ideal, for us to have to pay more for our education, at least Wheaton "has a set tuition" that is in balance with the cost of living.
