Most people can't wait for vacation because they can't wait to go home. Not only do they want to see their family, but they want to see friends, sleep in their own bed, eat home cooked meals, etc. Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday of the year, but not necessarily for the reasons I just listed.
Okay the gig is up; the US economy is in a recession. As an economics major, I was drilled early on in my academic career by the infamous and now retired Professor Walgreen that a recession is when an economy has two consecutive periods of negative growth.
I am the backs coach for Wheaton women's rugby. Just wanted to let you know that Bryant women's rugby won the National Small Colleges Championship last weekend winning both the semi final by 40 points and the Final by 20. This makes Wheaton's 8-7 loss to them even more impressive - Wheaton were the only team to hold Bryant to a single figure score and the only team to score the same number of tries as them in any game this season.
Dec. 10 of this year will see the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Around the world diplomats and dignitaries will mark this event in their calendars. Other than that, pretty much no one will care. There are no signatories to the Declaration, because it is not legally binding, but it has been adopted by the United Nations General Assembly.
In 1890, economist Alfred Marshall presented a view of the lifecycle of firms in his Principles of Economics. He compared firms to trees in a forest with younger trees struggling upwards through the shade of the larger, older trees. The trees that grow tall become stronger as they have uninhibited access to sunlight, but after a while, "age tells on them all.
