A soap-operaesque performance of dramatic proportions, "An Inspector Calls," explores the destructiveness of indifference through provacative one-on-one interviews. Set in 1912 Brumley, England, "An Inspector Calls" presents a wealthy manufacturer and his family wrapped up in a murder mystery.
"Marie Howe has perfected the Marie Howe genre," said English Professor Sarah Green in her introduction of the poet before last Thursday's reading. Over the course of the next hour, the thirty students, staff, and faculty members in attendance learned what characterized this genre, and what has made the poet famous: her intense gaze on the world she inhabits, a tenderness towards that same world, rhythmical lines, and so-real-you-could-touch-them details.
