The Women's Basketball team opens their season November 15 at home versus Lassell. After a successful season last year, as NEWMAC champions and the first team to earn a NCAA Tournament birth in 13 years, the Lyons are looking to get even better. Although winning is always important, it is the "true team" aspect that Coach Melissa Hodgdon has a focus on.
For the past three semesters, I have enjoyed some great experiences and moments that have occurred through intramural sports, but sadly this year it seems as if the program has fallen apart. Intramurals are all about rivalries and having fun, but can anyone say they have enjoyed their soccer, basketball or even softball games this fall? Not to mention, football? At the beginning of the current semester, director of intramurals, David Begley, created a Wheaton webpage on a college intramural website called IMleagues.
On Saturday, November 1, both men's and women's cross country traveled to Franklin Park in Boston for the NEWMAC Championship race. The men finished fifth out of seven teams while the women earned second-place accolades in a ten team field. The women's runner-up finish this year matched their NEWMAC performance from last year.
Barack Obama and John McCain have finally finished the marathon run of the Presidential election and, unless you were on the other side of the moon for the last week, you'll know that Barack achieved victory. For the first time in a while, the result was beyond controversy, as Obama took the popular vote as well as the Electoral College.
I came to Massachusetts from southern California, and I was always used to everyone having their own sports teams. There is a lot of diversity in which teams people root for, partly because there are two Los Angeles basketball teams and two baseball teams as well, but no football team.
