SGA election results announced

SGA election results were announced in the Loft on Tuesday, September 23 at 11 p.m. Among those elected was Jessica Brunelle, who ran against Kumar Garbuja for the position of Class of 2009 Vice President. "It's a huge weight that's been lifted…to have everything solidified is a relief because now we can get to work," said Brunelle.

Changes in curriculum make connections more diverse

Connections, an integral part of Wheaton's Liberal Arts education, have undergone several changes that will affect the class of 2010 and all subsequent classes. Connections, a required set of courses across several disciplines linked by a theme, have been revised to close a previous loophole that when taken advantage of defeated their very purpose.

Classics reaches out to prospective students

Chair of the Classics Department Professor Joel Relihan has begun working with the Office of Admissions to better promote the department to prospective and incoming students. "Going to college is not just a matter of English, science and math," Relihan said.

Campus supports initiative to become a HeartSafe community

Norton and Wheaton are becoming "HeartSafe communities" after generous funding from the college. A new CPR training program, Citizen CPR, will be administered to all resident advisors as well as 2,000 citizens of Norton. Citizen CPR, which takes only thirty minutes of training as opposed to the typical American Heart Association certification requirement of three to four hours, will first be administered to the RAs.

Graphic novelist speaks on comic books, enhances FYS curriculum

In an initiative to enrich the Wheaton curriculum, famed graphic novelist Paul Karasik gave a lecture last Wednesday, September 24, about the intricacies of comic strips. Sponsored by professors Marc LeBlanc and Gabriella Torres, this lecture is part of this year's First Year Seminars, Storytelling through computer animation and Fear in the making of the Americas.

Eliza Wheaton honored on Founder's Day

Faculty, students, and staff gathered to celebrate the 199th birthday of Eliza Baylies Wheaton on Friday, September 26. The Founder's Day program began with speeches by interim Provost Elita Pasta-Landis and Archivist and Curator of Special Collections Zeph Stickney.

A New Fire Drill System - December 1951

Do Wheaton Students today have it easier in regards to fire drills? Can you picture yourself using rope to escape a burning building on a cold winter night? In the fall semester of 1925 new fire drill system was installed, where the female residents on 2rd and 3rd floors of dormitories were expected to slide out their window using a rope.
