Order has been restored--a year after finishing second to MIT in the NEWMAC, Wheaton women's track is back on top, winners, for the tenth time in eleven years, of the conference title. Last weekend's NEWMAC Championship, held at Smith, saw the Lyons edge Springfield College by a mere two points, but a win is a win, and a NEWMAC title in a NEWMAC title.

"I have taken pride in our title as NEWMAC champs year after year," shares Megan Brousseau '08, one of the team's four captains. "Losing to MIT was hard but we are back."

Without question the highlight of this spring season has been the success of the team's 4x400-meter relay team. The success of the relay team has been integral to the overall achievement of the team this spring, most recently coming through in the clutch at the NEWMAC Championship with a time of 3:56.81. Running the relay were Renee Thompson '10, Lily Calderwood '09, Christine Moreau '09, and Kelly Libert '10.

However, even for the success that the relay squad had this past weekend at the NEWMAC, arguably the meet that shines brightest for Wheaton took place earlier this season at the Miami Elite Invitational on April 12. At that event the team, anchored by captain Chizoba Ezeigwe '09, posted the fastest Division III time not only at that meet, but for any team this season, clocking in at 3:47.27. In addition to Ezeigwe, the 4x400 squad at Miami consisted of captain Natana Jules '09, Libert, and Thompson.

With their fine showing in Miami, the 4x400 team earned an automatic qualification for the NCAA Division III Championship, to be held at University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh May 22-24.

Not content to rest on the laurels of her and her teammates efforts, Jules says that "as we enter championship season, it is important for us not to get lazy."

So far, it seems to be reasonably safe to say that the Lyons have not slipped into any laziness, considering the success of the 4x400 team and the team as a whole with their big win this past weekend.
