The Wheaton synchro team posted an exceptional season placing third in the East Collegiate Regional, third in the ECAC Championship, and for the 20th consecutive season a top 10 finish at the United States Collegiate Championship.
Contrary to campus rumor the Wheaton Synchronized swimming team is not a Division I team, the team does compete against D-I schools and continually ranks alongside them nationally year in and year out.
The team competed with only six swimmers this season, when most teams compete with eight, making Wheaton's results all the more impressive.
Synchronized swimming in itself is very unique, because as senior Megan Kinney says "it really is the ultimate team sport; it requires team members to come together and swim as one perfectly synchronizing movements with the music."
First year head coach Rebecca Story called the season a huge success.
"All the hours of dedication really paid off. The team overcame a lot this year with a new coach, a small team, and more competitions. But everything seemed to work in our favor and the girls came through with tons of success," said Story.
The lone senior on this season's team, Megan Kinney, believes "the future promises to be bright with such a dedicated and talented group of new and returning swimmers and such a qualified coach at the helm of the program."
This seems to be true with the team adding at least another four swimmers next year to an already successful team.
The team's last event of the season will be the annual water show to benefit the Right to Play organization, it will be held in Haas on April 19.
